State Rep. Mark Tisdel and fellow legislators this month announced a plan to ensure parents are informed about major decisions that affect children at school.

Tisdel’s House Bill 5330 would simply require public schools to notify parents of decisions that will have a long-term impact on their child’s physical or mental health, academics, or future career.

“Involved, informed parents are fundamental to a child’s well-being and growth,” said Tisdel, R-Rochester Hills. “Good Michigan teachers, counselors, and administrators work with parents to help direct students’ paths, and open lines of communication and collaboration to facilitate learning and lifelong success. My plan will ensure schools keep parents in the loop about decisions that will have long-lasting effects, whether helping a student overcome an academic struggle, deal with bullying, or apply for college.”

HB 5330 was referred to the House Committee on Families, Children, and Seniors.
