Speaker of the House Matt Hall released the following statement following the Senate Regulatory Affairs Committee beginning their hearing on SB 8 and SB 15:
“I am committed to finding the right solution to the tip credit and earned sick time crisis that protects both Michigan’s working families and our local small businesses. I have come to the table in good faith, trying to meet Senate Democrats halfway, because I believe we can achieve a balanced approach that helps hardworking Michiganders without forcing a big part of our small business community to close their doors for good. We can get this done now – it’s well past time for Senate Democrats to meet us halfway, accept my offer, and solve this crisis before next week’s deadline.
“This isn’t about labor lobbyists or big businesses — it’s about making sure working people and small business owners caught in the middle have a fair and realistic path forward where they can keep their jobs and their benefits, earn a good living, take care of their families. I will continue bringing people together for a solution that provides economic opportunity and gives our local workers the protections they deserve.”
