Rep. Bellino talks about testimony Tuesday morning in the House Judiciary Committee on his HB 5982, which would prohibit the sale of nitrous oxide containers for recreational use in Michigan. Rep. Bellino says the use of “whippits,” which refers to cartridges of nitrous oxide gas used as a recreational inhalant drug, has become a serious issue with young people in Michigan. The legislation remains in Committee.
The House on Wednesday approved an extensive bill package, with Rep. Bellino’s support, to help strengthen people’s civil liberties by updating and clarifying executive and emergency powers.
State Rep. Joe Bellino, R-Monroe, today released the following statement criticizing Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s new call for a sales tax pause after she previously vetoed three bipartisan tax relief plans passed by the Legislature:
“I am urging the Natural Resources Commission to rescind new deer harvest reporting requirements, which I believe are unjust. These mandatory requirements include criminal penalties for those who fail to comply. I am sympathetic to the need for deer population monitoring, but the seven unelected members of the NRC simply do not have any right to enforce criminal penalties.
State Rep. Joe Bellino and Sen. Dale Zorn today announced the Port of Monroe, and the Arthur Lesow Community Center (ALCC) in Monroe will receive nearly $13 million in funding as part of the final budget proposal approved today by the Legislature.
