State Rep. Jaime Greene today celebrated the announcement that the U.S. Air Force has selected Selfridge Air National Guard Base to host a new fleet of 12 KC-46A Pegasus aircraft.

The A-10 attack aircraft currently stationed at Selfridge Air National Guard Base are aging, and the U.S. Air Force plans to divest in the A-10s just a couple of years from now. The Air Force is also phasing out the KC-135 tankers currently housed at the base.

“I am thrilled Selfridge Air National Guard Base has been selected as the new home for the KC-46As,” Greene said. “With hundreds of dedicated personnel and a massive impact on our local economy, Selfridge is a cornerstone of our community, fostering both security and economic stability. The incoming KC-46As ensure that Selfridge will continue to play a crucial role in national defense for many years to come. This is a proud moment for Macomb County, Michigan, and I look forward to seeing the continued success and growth of Selfridge.”

Selfridge currently operates 21 aircraft supported by 611 personnel, including 246 full-time employees. The base has an impact of more than $44 million a year on Michigan’s economy.

Greene vowed to continue working alongside Michigan’s federal delegation to advocate for a new fighter mission at Selfridge.
