State Rep. Cam Cavitt is inviting tax filers in Northeast Michigan to contact his office if they face problems when filing state taxes. His office can help people who are experiencing delays in receiving their state tax returns or have questions about new tax laws.
“Tax filing season can be confusing, especially for people who don’t have time to spend dozens of hours figuring out what they are and are not eligible for,” Cavitt said. “My office can assist people in securing their returns on time and better understanding tax credits and other details of tax law.”
Cavitt also is encouraging people to utilize the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Free File program, where eligible taxpayers can file using free tax software. Taxpayers, including active-duty military, with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $79,000 or less are eligible to file taxes with an IRS Free File provider.
Cavitt’s office is available by phone at (517) 373-0833 or by email at CamCavitt@house.mi.gov.
For help with federal returns, Cavitt encourages people to contact Congressman Jack Bergman at 202-225-4735.
