State Rep. Ken Borton today celebrated the approval of $200,000 in funding for upgrades to Hartwick Pines State Park in Crawford County. The park funding was officially signed into law by the governor on July 21 as part of Michigan’s 2027 state budget. 

“This funding will help ensure that Hartwick Pines is able to complete the renovations needed to give visitors a great experience,” said Borton (R-Gaylord). “Infrastructure repairs and exhibit refurbishments are essential for giving visitors the best opportunity to learn about Michigan’s diverse wildlife and incredible natural history.” 

Hartwick Pines State Park is one of the largest state parks in the lower peninsula. The park contains 49 acres of old-growth pine forest, some of the last in the state. The Hartwick Pines Visitor Center presents an immersive history of Michigan’s pine forests, while the Hartwick Pines Logging Museum showcases Michigan’s 19th-century logging industry. 

“Michiganders of all ages should have these opportunities to learn about the natural history of our state,” Borton said. “With proper funding, we can work to ensure that visitors have the best experience possible.”
