Port Huron lawmaker elected assistant Republican leader

State Rep. Andrew Beeler will be assistant Republican leader in the Michigan House of Representatives during the 2023-2024 term.

The House Republican caucus today chose Beeler, R-Port Huron, to serve in the key leadership position during the 102nd Legislature, which begins in January.

“House Republicans have our work cut out for us, because Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and her Democratic allies are gearing up to impose a radical agenda in our state,” Beeler said. “I’m grateful to my colleagues for entrusting me to help lead our caucus as we stand up for the people of Michigan and fight the governor’s extreme agenda in the years ahead.”

As assistant Republican leader, Beeler will help lead House Republicans, developing core policy initiatives of the caucus while opposing harmful proposals that Whitmer and House Democrats are expected to push.

Beeler was elected to his second term in the House on Tuesday. He will represent the new 64th District, which includes parts of both St. Clair and Sanilac counties.

In the House, Beeler is currently majority vice chair of the Military, Veterans and Homeland Security Committee. He also serves on the Education, Energy, Health Policy, and Tax Policy committees.
