House Republican Leader Matt Hall, R-Richland Township, on Tuesday issued the following statement:
“Safeguarding the integrity of our elections is incredibly important, and fraud should be thoroughly investigated wherever and whenever it occurs. These are very serious charges being leveled today, and we will all be watching this case closely. Many Americans are concerned about the recent flood of politically charged prosecutions in Michigan and around the country, and this prosecutor will need to prove his allegations in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
“Everyone wants Michigan’s elections to be free and fair. That’s why we were so concerned to see House Democrats last month pass very partisan bills to undermine our election integrity — blowing past the intent of the voters in Proposal 2 to push a far-left wish list of ideas. We’d like to see defending our democracy and safeguarding our elections be a priority for Democrats in the bills we pass in the House, not just in the headlines.”
“DTE’s $368 million electric rate increase on Michigan residents and job providers is nothing compared to what’s coming down the pipeline next. The utilities will collect a windfall under Democrats’ energy mandates that became law this week.”
“The population council’s current proposal isn’t even a real plan and has no strategy to grow our population,” Hall said. “It’s just a long wish list for new revenues — tax hikes on Michiganders.”
“Michiganders want their leaders to work together to make our state safe and successful,” Hall said. “The balance of power in the House of Representatives is a call to bipartisanship, and Michigan legislators on both sides of the aisle should answer the call and find common ground.”
