LANSING, Mich. —State Sen. Jon Bumstead, R-Newaygo, and Rep. Luke Meerman, R-Coopersville, issued the following statement in response to Gov. Whitmer’s announcement regarding MIOSHA COVID-19 work rules:

“It is encouraging that Gov. Whitmer has given the public a date to conclude her endless emergency. While we are happy to hear the governor say that MIOSHA will update their COVID-19 workplace rules next Monday, we remain concerned about what the actual order will look like.

“The people of Michigan have spoken up and submitted their public comments to MIOSHA regarding making COVID-19 workplace rules permanent. They demand that those permanent rules will be withdrawn. Anything less than complete withdrawal of the proposed permanent rules will fall short of our and the public’s expectations. We further expect that the emergency rules that are currently in place will end as well.

“We look forward to receiving the details of the governor’s plan regarding the MIOSHA COVID-19 workplace rules and remain committed to supporting the people of Michigan in their quest to finish this endless emergency.”
