State Rep. Bronna Kahle today commended the Michigan Economic Development Corporation for awarding a $2 million Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to the City of Morenci’s water and sewer main reconstruction.

The grant program is designed to help Michigan communities make needed improvements to water, sewer and wastewater infrastructure systems.

“This investment will go far to protect the health and wellness of Morenci families by ensuring access to clean water,” Kahle said. “I’m pleased to see the MEDC make this impactful investment in Lenawee County.”

The grant will be used to reconstruct water and sewer mains and rebuild a lift station and iron removal filter system.

The city will match the MEDC’s investment with a $478,452 investment of its own.
