State Rep. Jaime Greene (R-Richmond) today hosted a data center briefing for legislators, offering them an opportunity to gather information and ask questions about the data center industry in Michigan and ensuring they are equipped with factual information about the sector as a whole.
The bipartisan event, which Greene co-hosted alongside Rep. Joey Andrews (D-St. Joseph) featured a presentation by Brad Tietz, Director of State Policy for the Data Center Coalition.
“Data centers themselves are not the problem; the real challenge comes when decisions are made without local consent,” said Greene. “Responsible development must always involve listening to and respecting the people who will live with the impact of the new facility. Supporting data centers and upholding local control aren’t opposing goals, but rather complementary.”
The briefing highlighted the importance of balancing Michigan’s growing data center sector with the needs of local communities. Legislators discussed how economic development and local governance can work together to ensure that data center growth occurs responsibly, benefiting both the industry and the communities where these facilities are located.
