State Rep. John Damoose this week joined with Cheboygan County Habitat for Humanity to honor Elizabeth “Betty” Schaefer as the organization’s Volunteer of the Year.

Rep. Damoose, of Harbor Springs, presented Schaefer with a legislative tribute recognizing her work with the organization. Schaefer joined the Habitat for Humanity board in 2005, and she has served as the board’s treasurer. She has been instrumental in helping the organization grow its capacity to serve. She currently is the board’s vice president.

“People like Betty Schaefer – and organizations like Habitat for Humanity – strengthen our community and make it a great place to live,” Rep. Damoose said. “Their hard work and commitment are always worthy of recognition and thanks – particularly after the past year, which has been challenging for everyone.”

Cheboygan County Habitat for Humanity helps community members obtain and maintain affordable housing in the community. In addition to her work with Habitat for Humanity, Schaefer serves on her church task force, Cheboygan Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and much more!
